What Can a Gas Fitter Do?
Most gas work is one of three jobs: fitting new lines, installing appliances onto them, or finding faults when something goes wrong. On this run that means:
- New gas lines and extensions, run to kitchens, laundries and outdoor setups
- Cooktop, oven, heater, BBQ and pool heater installation
- Bayonet points for portable heaters
- Gas leak detection, repair and pressure testing
- Disconnections and make-safes when an appliance is swapped out
Gas hot water, whether storage or continuous-flow, sits on the hot water systems page, where the choice between system types gets the space it needs.
Toronto Gas Fitting Services
Two kinds of gas job have a page of their own:
Gas appliance installation
** cooktops, ovens, heaters, BBQs and pool heaters, connected onto new or existing lines and tested before we leave, with the job spelled out from the first pipe run to the final leak check.
Gas leak detection and repair
** gas smells traced with detectors, the leak repaired and the line proven sound, including who to ring first when the odour sits out at the meter.
How Do You Spot a Fault?
Flame colour is the fastest tell on a cooktop or heater, and the other signs sit close behind it:
- Yellow or orange tips on a flame that should burn blue
- A smell of gas near a cooktop, meter or bayonet fitting
- A heater that will not light, or drops out while running
- Igniters clicking without catching
- A gas bill rising while your cooking habits stay the same
Any of these is worth checking before the appliance is used again. A strong gas smell is different: treat it as urgent and ring straight away.

What Shapes the Price of Gas Work?
We provide up-front, honest quotes that will always match the final price, should you decide to go ahead.
"We had an urgent gas problem that required immediate attention at our home…on a Friday afternoon. … Identified the issue, fixed and tested" Lee
That way a gas job never grows in price halfway through. On gas work, the figure moves on:
- Run length, because every metre of new pipe is drilled, clipped and tested
- The appliance, because a single heater bayonet is small beside a long run out to a pool heater
- Access, with a pipe through an open subfloor more affordable to run than one chased through brick
- Leak tracing time on older fittings, where the detector sweep narrows the search
That fixed figure is exactly what Lee described after an urgent Friday job:

When We're Not the Right Call
A smell at the meter or out on the footpath goes to the gas network's emergency line, and that is the first call to make. A cooktop with an ignition fault on the electrical side needs an electrician once the gas side is safe.
Gas Questions From the Town
Can you add a gas bayonet to an older cottage near the water?
Yes. In the pre-war homes on the foreshore side of town, a bayonet usually runs off an existing line where access allows, and we quote the pipe run before anything is drilled. Where the line has to cross the house, the price reflects that longer run.
Do you connect pool heaters and outdoor kitchens?
We do. Pool heaters, BBQs and outdoor kitchens run off gas lines we extend from the meter, and outdoor runs need solid fixing and weather protection. The appliance installation page sets out what is involved before you buy the appliance.
Who do I ring about a smell near the gas meter?
Ring the gas network's emergency line first, day or night, when the odour is at the meter or beyond it. Anything on the house side is ours: we trace it with a gas detector, repair the line and pressure-test before we leave.
Can you check the gas work before I buy an older home here?
Yes. Before settlement on one of the older houses, we can pressure-test the line and check every appliance connection, then report anything that needs fixing. It is a short job that can save a nasty surprise after you move in.
